During treatment, a laser emits a light that is absorbed by the pigment in the hair. The light energy is converted to heat, which damages the hair follicles that produce hairs. This damage prevents or delays future hair growth. Laser hair removal effectively delays hair growth for long periods but it usually doesn't result in permanent hair removal forever. Multiple laser hair removal treatments are needed for initial hair removal and from there maintenance treatments might be needed as well.
With the horizon diode machine, we can use the laser while simultaneously cooling the skin. This gives a very comfortable treatment. You can expect to wear eye goggles for safety measures. Your provider will quickly shave any leftover hairs and then ultrasound gel is applied to the skin. This is to give the laser a barrier between it and your skin. Once the laser is being used, you may feel a warm sensation or a quick pin prick like sensation. We numb the more sensitive areas beforehand (ex: Brazilian).
The entire body!
With the horizon diode laser everyone can be treated! Hair color and skin type influences the results of laser hair removal. The pigment (melanin) of the hair should absorb the light, NOT the pigment of the skin. The risk of damage to skin is greater when there is little contrast between the hair color and skin color. The horizon laser technology has made it so everyone on the Fitzpatrick’s scale can be treated. Although, laser hair removal is less effective for hair colors that don't absorb light well like gray, red, blond and white.
We usually recommend 6-8 sessions for the face and 8-10 sessions for the rest of the body. From there you can come in every 6-12 months for maintenance.
Avoid exposing your skin to the sun or self-tan for at least 2 weeks after treatment. This is to minimize darkening of the skin (hyperpigmentation).
Avoid heat treatments such as spas, steam rooms and saunas for 7 days.
Avoid shaving the treated area for 72 hours after treatment.
Avoid exercising for at least 48 hours.
Avoid hot baths and hot showers for 48 hours.
Avoid make-up on the treated area for at least 48 hours.
Please wear sunscreen every day to avoid any discoloration from forming
Results are dependent on the person, you can see results as fast as 1 treatment. Thicker and darker areas may take a couple sessions to notice improvement. The hairs do not fall out immediately, but you will shed them over a period of days. Most people experience hair removal that lasts several months to years but laser hair removal does not guarantee permanent hair removal. When hair regrows, it's usually finer and lighter in color. You might need maintenance laser treatments for long-term hair reduction.
